Strange Conversations: Part Two Hundred and Forty-One
Posted 17 December 2009 in Strange Conversations by Catriona
After watching the Iron Man 2 trailer. (Which is here. You should watch it).
ME: And what I love in this? Tony Stark is such a complete show pony.
And they really play that up.
NICK: Yeah. He’s a totally awesome character. They’re really nailed the core of the character.
ME: They have! Wait and see. You’ll see what I mean. And is that Mickey Rooney?
(Pause)
ME: No! Mickey Rourke. Damn. Shut up.
NICK: What?
ME: Don’t mention the Mickey Rooney comment. To anyone. Ever.
NICK: Oh. I didn’t even process it.
ME: Well . . . it never happened.
NICK: My lips are sealed.
ME: No need! It never happened. It was a mirage.
NICK: Indeed.

If it never happened, why have you posted it on your blog? :p

Because I decided it was hilarious? And the conversation didn’t work without that bit.
I need to get over this sense that it’s only fair to make fun of Nick, while I present myself as consistently cool, elegant, and restrained.
(What’s that noise of distant hysterical laughter I can hear?)

You have summed up my feelings exactly, Drew!
And, yes, Wendy, I wouldn’t have hesitated about putting it on the blog as long as I did about five minutes) if Nick had made the comment.

I’ve been completely in the dark about this so it’s all new to me. Whiplash is really a surprise villain and not who I would have thought (maybe Justin Hammer is behind the scenes), the Black Widow isn’t but who cares she looks great. As does Gwyneth. I know a lot of people weren’t a fan of her being in the first movie but I liked her and am glad she’s still there. Can’t wait to see this one.

Gwyneth won me over, actually. I’m not a fan of hers, but I found her charming in the first film, and she and Robert Downey Junior work well together. And he’s so fabulous: that whole opening sequence just sums up what a perfect Tony Stark he is.
I did have two problems with the Black Widow (both minor), but Nick told me they were both irrelevant: I think he thinks she looks great, too.
I think she looks mostly great, but that curly hair looks like a wig to me. I don’t think it is a wig, which is just all the more reason not to look like one.
(I also don’t think she’d fight with her hair all loose like that. Who would? It would get in your eyes, get caught in machinery or who knows whatever, and give your opponents a serious advantage. But I know: comic books.)

yeah, I don’t think many fanboys are going to be bothered by those points. :)

No, I know. I imagine a number of the fangirls won’t be bothered, either: she does look fab with the red hair. But, honestly, would it kill the Soviet super-spy to put on a beanie or something? Or to braid it? Anything to stop it being ripped out by the roots.

A very rocking trailer. I’m reminded of The Onion’s review of the Iron Man 1 trailer.

Ah, yes, I had forgotten about the Onion’s review of the IM-1 trailer. God Bless the Onion.
