Driving out:
ME: William Jolly Bridge is the best name for a bridge ever.
NICK: Yeah.
ME: Because it’s jolly.
NICK: Yeah.
ME: Because “jolly” is an underused word.
NICK: Yeah.
ME: Except at Christmas, when it’s overused.
NICK: Yeah.
ME: It’s a terrible state of being for a word.
NICK: Yeah.
ME: I’m really tired.
NICK: I can tell.

What about Sydney’s Tom Ugly bridge? Nominative determinism if ever I saw it.

I’d forgotten all about Tom Uglys Bridge! It’s certainly hideous: no mistake there.
But the William Jolly bridge is definitely jolly: see? All those lovely arches!
Plus, in an attempt to ease the congestion on the bridge at peak hour, which is awful, they’re opening the Go-Between Bridge this year.
Brisbane is just all about the cool bridge names. Which is a bonus, because it’s not otherwise an attractive city: too much archaeological cannibalism.
