Strange Conversations: Part Thirty-Eight

Posted 27 August 2008 in by Catriona

I had my hair cut this morning, and I’m worried that it’s a little too short. (It’s doesn’t help when you say “shoulder length” and then the hairdresser starts muttering, after she’s already cut a chunk off, “That’s quite a lot to take off in one go.”

So I’m a little nervous about it.

Then the following conversation occurred:

NICK: So let’s have a look at the new hair.
ME: You could have mentioned it when you came into the room five minutes ago to say “Hello,” but you didn’t notice it.
NICK: I did! I did notice it! I was just waiting to have a proper conversation.
ME: You didn’t notice it.
NICK: Well, I wasn’t really looking at you.

Yep, honey. That makes it much better.

I’m trying a new hair place tomorrow..it comes highly recommended…but still…it’s always a little dicey!

It is, isn’t it? This is the same place I always go, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen the same hairdresser twice—I suspect they have a lot of students/newly graduated hairdressers, who then move on to new places.

It might help if I moved out of the postgraduate-students-don’t-spend-lots-of-money-on-haircuts headspace.

And I miss my old hairdresser, who was a terrifying German woman but a brilliant hairdresser.

I don’t have a problem with the overall cut, which is good and looks like it will wear well: it’s just the length. When I said shoulder length, I didn’t mean shoulder length while the hair is still wet. So it just feels a tad too short, now it’s dry.

I now have very swish new hair…it did cost an arm and a leg though! and it was a little freaky when i got there..as I felt like the daggiest person in the place! but the new hairdo soon fixed that….

Ooh, there’s nothing worse than stepping into a salon (or a clothing store) and thinking, “I’m just not cool enough to be here.”

But a swish new haircut’s worth anything.
