Strange Conversations: Part One Hundred and Seven
Posted 22 March 2009 in Strange Conversations by Catriona
ME: Being irritated with people for no reason seems to be my default at the moment.
NICK: For you, you mean?
ME: Yes, darling, for me. Hence the possessive pronoun. That “my” tends to tell you who owns the default.
NICK: Yes, I see what you mean.
Nick’s default, on the other hand, seems to be “taking his life in his hands.”

This one’s priceless.
And I know why you’re irritated. It’s not really you, Treena: it’s the marking speaking.

I like to do the George thing from Seinfeld:
eg. “Being irritated with people seems to be Catriona’s default at the moment”.
(Except of course I use my own name)
eg. “Wendy is getting cranky now!” etc….
That’s probably irritating as well :)
Sorry, hope you’re getting through that marking.

I just had to post a response to this, as am in the midst of marking myself and am turning into a ‘red-pen’ terror! Ah, the joys of first year assessments. Best of luck with it.
Great blog, by the way – I’ve been lurking for ages and have been wanting to comment/respond to sundry posts for ages but have only just picked up the courage. :) Your strange conversations are very similar to the ones I share with my husband!

Hi, Nayantara—thank you, and welcome to, well, not to the blog, but to the comments thread!
I suspect many people have strange conversations—I didn’t even mean to make mine such a focus of the blog, but they took on a sudden popularity of their own. Nick now preens himself on being the hero of Circulating Library.
Or the protagonist, anyway.
