Smug T-shirts
Posted 29 May 2008 in Life, the Universe, and Everything by Catriona
I don’t have a particular problem with message T-shirts, but I can’t be having with the smug ones.
While grocery shopping this morning—during which I completely forgot to buy milk, even though that was my main purpose in going out: to get milk for coffee—I passed a women’s leisurewear shop that had in its window display a T-shirt reading “I Earn My Chocolate One Step At A Time.”
I now desperately want a T-shirt that reads “Really? I Guess My Chocolate Just Loves Me Unconditionally.”

Recently I saw a boys (well I should say blue) t-shirt that said “playground casanova” hmm yes that’s what we want our little boys to aspire to. Mind you a painted Jack a t-shirt that says “free range” on it and it looked a little plain so I painted an apple underneath, when he wears it people ask me where I got the free range apples shirt from, not exactly the message I thought the shirt would convey, and certainly more random than I expected … Could be a good thing I guess xx

Well, at least it’s attracting attention. I read about a baby’s playsuit recently with “Daddy’s Little Squirt” printed on it—complete with an illustration of the father’s practical contribution to conception. I don’t see the cleverness in that.
But I did really struggle with my desire to buy Hamish or Jack a “Dingo Snack” T-shirt—before I decided it wasn’t really funny in Australia.
On a slightly random note, it seems to me that people are broadly misapplying the term “Casanova” these days; they seem to feel it’s synonymous with “Prince Charming” or “Romeo.” And while Romeo’s constancy might be up for debate—what with his early passion for Rosamund—Casanova’s is not a vexed question—he wasn’t constant at all.
But Andorra, singing “Casanova” at Eurovision, were suggesting that Casanova would be the great love of their life if he hadn’t left them. Thoroughly bizarre.

Umm, if we could return to the topic of geeky t-shirts for a moment…
My favourite is “My other shirt is Mithril”

Even cooler than the“Eldrad Must Live” T-shirt?
I’ve always secretly hankered for a “Talk Nerdy To Me” T-shirt, but then I worry that people would.
And I’ve always wished that I knew more chemists, so I had an excuse to buy a “If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the precipitate” T-shirt.
Still, I’m pretty sure I’m right about the Casanova thing.
