Oooh I forgot to mention I have a friend who is an interior designer. She sorts her books by the colour of their spine. Terrible for when you actually need to find a book but it does look tres chic.
My books aren’t stacked in an organised way at all, though. It’s just a trick of the photographs—and not even then, really. Not if you look closely.
Yes, the Charlaine Harris happen to be together, but that’s really only because I bought them all (almost) at once, so I had to find a single space for them. Even then it’s only the Sookie Stackhouse books: the Lily Bard Mysteries and the Harper Connelly series are in another room, whereas if I were organised, they’d all be together.
There really is no organising principle behind most of my shelving—if there were, then I wouldn’t keep losing my copy of Seamus Heaney’s translation of Beowulf.
I do stay away from anything that turns my books into interior design, though. It does look pretty, but it’s not practical, and I think it’s bad for my books’ self-esteem.

You are an inspiration. I am going to make it a weekend project to lovingly tend to my bookshelves.

I agree with Matthew, these photos make me want to stack in a far more organised and elegant way … if only I had the time.

The tiny bodybag on the tiny bed is quite creepy. Lovely pics otherwise!

It’s an alien corpse, Tim. Does that make it less creepy or more creepy?

Would placing next to it the miniature Agent Scully figurine that it came with also increase or decrease the creepy-factor? Hmm. Don’t answer that.

I did consider that, actually. But there’s a previous “Books in their Natural Environment” post with the Scully figurine, so I left her out this time.

In my opinion, the fact that it’s an alien doesn’t make it less creepy, though having it next to Agent Scully would.
