Strange Conversations: Part Seventy-Six

Posted 9 January 2009 in by Catriona

Nick and I have been reading our horoscopes from The Onion, hands down the most plausible and convincing horoscopes on the Internet.

(I’m particularly pleased with mine: “A freak explosion aboard a Florida fishing boat leaves you with the proportional strength and speed of a red-bellied trout.” Now I just have to get to Florida sometime in this coming week.)

Then we read Nick’s.

ME: Oh, honey!
NICK: What?!
ME: “You will accidentally jump to your death this week, thanks to a rather low ceiling fan.”
NICK: Oh, no!
ME: I know!
NICK: That’s so likely to actually happen!
ME: That’s what I thought!

I almost put my hand into the ceiling fan the other day when I was stretching arms upwards….so just watch out!

And when I was much younger I knew a boy who played the cello. He was lifting it up to put it into his case and the ceiling fan cut the top bit off.

So beware the unexpected ceiling fan incident…

Nick’s over six foot, so he has a healthy fear of ceiling fans already. Our place is maybe 1940s? Maybe a little later? So it has quite high ceilings, and the fan is safely above his head. But he’s at real risk in his mother’s house, which is late 1970s or 1980s, with the standard ceilings.

I remember my brother once accidentally chopped the top of a live Christmas tree (well, it wasn’t live after he did that) by lifting it into the fan. And there were always horror stories at school, as well.

I have been wondering for a while if you number these strange conversations in order, or if you just make up a random number (as I would probably do, because I’m lazy).

Since today is apparently Procrastination Day, I just spent half an hour reading all of them, and can now report that: 1) I am very impressed by their sequential numbering; and 2) Nick is hilarious. The “Mrs Pellucid” comment is my favourite.

I do number them in order, except for special editions like the Christmas one or the one where my mother thought Shakespeare wrote a part for a mole.

Nick is hilarious: the “Mrs Pellucid” one seems to be a popular favourite. He was congratulated on that one a lot at a subsequent Doctor Who night.

Which number is the Pellucid comment, my favourite comment is still yours about the army of puffins… i still giggle when i think of it.

Oh, bless you: I was starting to get a little paranoid about everyone insisting that Nick is hilarious.

No, wait: Nick’s the one who made the comment about the wussbag army of puffins! Damn.

Sorry—missed the question in there. The “Mrs Pellucid” comment is the punchline to Strange Conversations Part Five.

Hehe, yes that was funny, but the army of puffins beats it hands down for me, and yes your right Nick made the final comment, but still you were coming up with the army of puffins in the first place, hang on does that make Nick funny and you just a little weird :)
