Photographing My Home On Polaroid, in the 1960s

Posted 3 April 2010 in by Catriona

At least, if I had travelled back in time, bought a Polaroid camera, photographed my home (which, for the purposes of this argument, is furnished exactly the same way in the 1960s as it is in the twenty-first century), and then left the Polaroids in an album for forty years, I imagine they’d look quite like this now.

Especially if the album got damp at some point.

In fact, I was just playing with Hipstamatic on the iPhone, but you have to admit the original story was much more interesting than the truth.

You know, when I was last in the 1960s (about 40+ years ago) I searched high and low for DVDs, sadly all I could find were records and blank cassette tapes. You must have an awesome record store near you.

That looks like a fun app! I really should get around to updating my firmware so I can give it a whirl. Did you get any of the extras? :)

I desperately want Hipstamatic !!! Either that or I’m going to have to actually buy myself a polaroid camera !! These are great, can you come and do my house/kids/life :)

Actually, Melissa, I need to update my OS software on my iPhone (which is a relatively ancient 2G) before I can even instal Hipstamatic. I took these on Nick’s 3GS. But once I update the software, the first thing I’m doing is downloading Hipstamatic, so Nick can have his phone back.

But Nick does have the whole lot, so we took many, many photos. I need to experiment more, to see which lenses/papers work best in different lights. There’s a Bollywood lens that I suspect would take lovely ’70s-style outdoor photos, but didn’t really work well indoors.

And then I’ll go and photograph Leigh’s life, house, and kids.

;)
