Galaxy Four and Fury From the Deep – classics sadly lost forever (or at least until the Who3D people get their act together). What a pity the BBC incinerated the film reels to save space.

Yes, I tend to think the incineration of Doctor Who episodes is one of the greatest crimes the BBC ever committed—slightly ahead of that adaptation of Northanger Abbey with Robert Hardy.

I always tend to think of the destruction in terms of Doctor Who, and hadn’t realised how many other programmes were destroyed, until I read here about the 1972 adaptation of Anne of Green Gables, which now no longer exists, though the sequel does.

Given that the sequel is apparently much closer to the books (Anne of Avonlea and Anne of the Island) than the Canadian version we’re all familiar with, it’s frustrating that we’ll never get to see the 1972 series.

Such a shame, that television should have been seen as such an ephemeral medium that it could be incinerated wholesale. And especially Doctor Who, which already had a massive fan following when they started burning episodes.

Its not like my house (or yours) doesn’t have enough books but these would look great as a framed series.

The more books and bookshelves I add to this house, the fewer spaces I have for pictures, I find—it’s a trade off I’m not entirely comfortable with. I do need some artwork in the study, though: it’s such a bare room (except for all the books).

But, on that note, have you hung any of the other series of pictures I’ve given you for Christmas over the years? I’m sure I’ve given you at least two! No, three: I’d forgotten that series of Firefly travel posters from . . . was it last year?
