Strange Conversations: Part Two Hundred and Thirty-Eight

Posted 14 December 2009 in by Catriona

My mother versus my novel.

MY MOTHER: So you have one copy for Jack.
ME: Yes.
MY MOTHER: And one copy for Hamish.
ME: Yes.
MY MOTHER: And one copy for Leigh.
ME: Yes.
MY MOTHER: And one so you can see what it looks like.
ME: Yes.
MY MOTHER: Well, you could have one for Jack and Hamish to share, one for Leigh, and one for me.
ME: I could have, but I didn’t suppose you’d be interested.
MY MOTHER: Why not?
ME: Well, you’ve never read anything else I’ve written.
MY MOTHER: Oh, but those were only Ph.Ds.
ME: Yes, I can see how that might be boring.

these conversations always brighten my day!

Is it unfilial of me to suggest they don’t always brighten mine?

;)

does your mother read your blog?

Drew, my mother can barely turn on her television!

But, no: she has zero interest in the blog, though she did like it when I started posting her conversations when she was visiting, and everyone thought they were hilarious. After that, every time she said something she thought was funny (and it often was), she’d say, “Put that on your blog!”

aw, that is sad. and funny but mostly sad.

That she doesn’t read my blog or that she can’t turn her television on?

None of my family read my blog. It doesn’t bother me, though I do wonder sometimes why I don’t capitalise on that to generate material from them.

I assume if I actually published a novel, they’d read that.

Umm… What about my copy of the novel? Do I have to wait until it’s on Amazon?

What, you don’t want to help me with some royalties, John?

If you want to read the first draft, I’ll send you a copy of the first draft. I want as much feedback as I can get.

Of course, almost everyone left my birthday party with a copy, which was a bit odd. So, if you’d come to that . . .

;)
