ME: That shower spray gets a bit cloying after a while, doesn’t it?
MY MOTHER: Which shower spray?
ME: Well, how many shower sprays do you have?
MY MOTHER: One in each bathroom.
ME: But they’re generically the same, right?
MY MOTHER: Well, what did you say?
ME: I said, “That shower spray . . .”
MY MOTHER: Right.
ME: “. . . gets a bit cloying after a while.”
MY MOTHER: I hadn’t noticed.
ME: (Sob)
MY MOTHER: Give up. It’s much easier if you just give up.
