Strange Conversations: Part Two Hundred and Forty-Five

Posted 6 January 2010 in by Catriona

Inspired by the strange things that Nick finds on the Internet:

NICK: Apparently, Benny and Bjorn from ABBA are huge Torchwood fans, and approached Russell T. Davies about doing a musical episode.
ME: Well, Torchwood is frequently quite terrifying.

Not convinced :-(
Eureka is doing a musical episode though, and I look forward to that.

Actually, I’m quite serious when I say that the idea terrifies me.

I don’t think Torchwood lends itself to the idea of a musical episode.

Buffy, at least, had a touch of whimsy that meant the musical spell was vaguely plausible within the world of the show. Torchwood has never had a whimsical side—or, at least, not that I can recall and certainly not in season three. Perhaps the wedding episode in season two was the closest they came to whimsy.

Plus, I have no love for musicals. In fact, I find the whole concept vaguely horrifying. How does everyone know the words? And are they all compelled to sing and dance, like automatons? Or do that many people really want to take part in high-stepping routines?

They freak me out.

I adore musicals :-)
Little Shop of Horrors? Dr Horrible? Musical episode of Daria? How could you resist?

They’d do it as a dream episode and it would totally rock!

I can resist fairly readily, Deb, because I don’t recall ever having seen any of those!

Actually, I must have seen Little Shop of Horrors, but bear no memory of it. I’ve never seen Doctor Horrible, and can’t remember which episodes of Daria I have seen.

I’ll make an exception for The Rocky Horror Picture Show, but everything else freaks me out.

I mean, think about it: The Sound of Music, purely because it’s a musical, actually makes the Nazis fairly sympathetic characters.

And, Matt, you like dream episodes? Were you, perchance, overly influenced by Brannon Braga’s years on Star Trek: Next Gen? And you think I’m bonkers!

Life has not been lived until you hear nathan Fillion sing a heroe song!
